The magnetism of Sm1-xGdxAl2 at low temperatures

Abstract:
The resistance and magnetic susceptibility of Sm 1-xGd xAl 2 wi th x=0.0098, 0.019 and 0.03 have been studied at low temperatures. Spin m oments and orbital moment s couple antiparallelly in this material. The compensation temperature at which t he spin moments are equal to orbital ones is observed, and it decreases with inc reasing x. The spin_orbit flip has been found in a strong field.
