Acoustic far-field inversion of three dimensional penetrable objects by an indicator sampling method
|
Abstract:
An indicator sampling method is proposed for visualizing a three dimensional penetrable obstacle from a knowledge of far field data for time harmonic acoustic scattered waves. The proposed scheme is achieved by extracting the support of an indicator function on a sampling domain containing the penetrable object as a visualization of the unknown object where the indicator function has noticeably different values inside and outside the penetrable object.A particular feature of the scheme is that it does not need any prior knowledge about the geometry and physical properties of the penetrable scatterer. Moreover, its numerical implementation only requires a knowledge of far field data of the scattered fields at a finite number of incidence and observation directions distributed over some limited apertures. Some numerical examples based on synthetic near field data are given showing the practicality and efficiency of the inversion approach.
