Investigation of thermal hystersis in Ni52.5Mn23.5Ga24 single crystals
|
Abstract:
The energy consumed for phase boundary friction in a Ni 52.5Mn 23.5Ga 24 single crystal during its martensitic transformation has been calculated based on the boundary friction phenomenological theory. We found that the energy consumed for phase boundary friction is 13.14J/mol,only a small part of the latent heat of its martensitic transformation.Furthermore, the results of thansformation loops measured by ac magnetic susceptibility proved that the thermal hysteresis of martensitic transformation is proportional to the portion of martensite produced. Therefore, this further indicates that the thermal hysteresis of the thermoelastic martensitic transformation originates from the friction of phase boundary motion.
