SEDIMENTARY CHARACTERS AND ORIGIN OF QIAOTOU SANDSTONE IN THE TAIYUAN FORMATION, BAODE AREA OF ORDOS BASIN

Some different viewpoints on the origins of the Qiaotou sandstone in the Baode city of Shanxi Province. Based on measuring the out section, the analysis of inner data, the petrologic character, lithologic association, sedimentary structure, palaeourrent directions, and distribution of sandstone, the sedimentary characters of the Qiaotou sandstone in the Taiyuan formation in Baode area is studied systematically. The sedimentary environment of the Qiaotou sandstone is the transition deposit of braided river during the lowstand period, after the Miaogou transgressior~ of the early Taiyuan period. The sedimentary characters of the Qiaotou sandstone are controlled by early tectonic backgrand, dissimilarity of structural change,sediments supply and eustatism.
