Review and Consideration of International Cooperation in Compound Artemether

By reviewing the course of the international cooperation in the patented medicine compound artemether of Chinese invention in the past 15 years and the enlightenment conferred to the study and development of medicines in China in the course, the article holds that the success that compound artemether could have its standard first raised in the country to an international standard from a domestic one and win great popularity in the world under the historical background of that time, are inseparable from the successful international cooperation. In the 15 years the situation that the economic system of China has gradually mixed together with that of the world and the patent and medical systems and their related technical standards have rapbidly dovetailed with those of the world has brought about a substantial leap forward of the thinking and knowledge in the study, development and innovation, the protection of patents, the clinical experiments, the registration and sale of medical products and the standardized management of all these links in the medical industry of the country. This is a thinking and management mode which have merged into the culture of this industry. The enlightenment that experience and lessons have taught us makes it clear that innovation is the foundation of the life of medicaments and international strategy forms the key to the development of medical industry of China.
