Development and Utilization of Resources of Tropical Medicinal Plants in Hainan Island

Hainan Island, the second of the largest islands of China, is located on the northern fringe of the Tropics. With a particular geographical position it has an advantageous ecological environment, diversified natural resources and abundant varieties of medicinal plants, but these resources of it are still in a quite low level of development and utilization owing to historical and other reasons. This article expounds the geographical and natural conditions and the general situation of the resources of medicinal plants, of the island as well as the history and status quo of development and u-tilization and the varieties and populations of these resources, which can be brought under development. And it puts forward proposals for the development and utilization of these resources as well.
