Quantitative Analysis on Changes of Facial Complexion in Four Seasons among Healthy People in Shanghai with Tongue-Complexion Detection System

Abstract:
This study was aimed to conduct objective quantitative analysis on facial complexion in four seasons among healthy people in Shanghai. The Tongue-Complexion Detection System (TCDS) was used in the observation of facial complexion features in four seasons. The results showed the RGB values of normal facial complexion in four seasons of Shanghai. In autumn, GB values are slightly high. There is statistical significance on GB values between autumn and winter (P<0.05). It showed that in autumn the facial complexion is more yellow. The L, a, b values of the results showed that in summer the a value is the highest. There is significant difference on a value between summer and spring (P<0.001). There is significant difference on a value between summer and autumn (P<0.001). It showed that in summer the feature of facial complexion is red. The b value is relatively high in spring. There is significant difference on b value between spring and summer (P< 0.001). There is significant difference on b value between spring and winter (P<0.01). It showed that the facial complexion in spring is greenish. The L value of facial complexion in winter is the lowest. There is significant difference on L value between winter and autumn (P<0.05). It showed that the facial complexion in winter is darker. The facial complexion is more grey and black. This study proved that there were certain principles on the change of facial complexion corresponding to seasons. This objective quantitative analysis verified the traditional Chinese medicine theory that "one's facial complexion changes according to four seasons".
