Case Study for Chinese Herbal Oils Refining and Active Ingredients Enrichment by Molecular Distillation
|
Abstract:
Molecular distillation is not only an innovative liquid-liquid separation technique but also a good approach for refining and protecting active components of Chinese medicine. It is suitable for separation and purification for materials with high boiling point, heat-sensitivity or easy oxygenation. In this paper, the research works carried out by the Sun Yat-sen University on the molecular distillation technology have been summarized. The threecases are the study on preparation of phytosterol in rice bran oil, on separation and purification of active ingredients in patchouli oil and on enrichment of trans-cinnamaldehyde in cinnamon oil. These classical cases were studied to illustrate the practical advantages and status of molecular distillation in Chinese herbal oils refining and quality control of Chinese medicine.
