Viewing Internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Aristolochic Acids
|
Abstract:
The article reviews the reasons and background of banning import of Chinese medicinal herbs containing aristolochic acid (AA), such as Guangfangji and Guanmutong, in some western countries, and puts forward some ways of using them safely on the basis of theories of genuine Chinese medicinal materials, and suggests that Chinese herb nephropathy (CHN) should be replaced by aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN) because only a few Chinese medicinal herbs contain AA . Therefore, it is unfit to follow some westerners to use such terms as improperly expanded and imprecisely named in their usage.
