Abstract:

The mass ratio between particles and explosive significantly affects the kinetic characteristics of particles dispersed by explosive. Granular tungsten driven by center cylinder of explosive 8701 was investigated experimentally in the present study. The mass ratios between granular tungsten and explosive ("charge ratio" for short) ranged from 2 to 7, and the mass of center explosive 8701 cylinder is 200 g for all charges. Experimental results show that at an effective distance (2m ~ 6m), the particle number density is direct proportional increasing with the charge ratio increases. At a near distance (2m~3m), the maximum penetration depth on paper target is decreasing significantly with the charge ratio increasing, but at a far distance (4m, 5m and 6m) it is not significant. There is similar tendency for average depth of particles penetrating paper target. The total penetration depth in unit area is not sensitive to charge ratio, only slightly increases with the charge ratio increasing.
