Abstract:

The effects of manufacturing processes and storage on the mechanical properties of explosives were rendered through studying the change of TATB,HMX explosives and binder F in PBX(plastic bonded explosive) during molding powder pressing,thermal processing,thermal aging and storage.Some conclusions can be obtained from the results.The crystallity of binder F increases with the aging temperature increasing.But generally,the mechanical properties of TATB-based PBX do not have any serious changes after being aged,which shows that the effect of the change of crystallinity of binder and the particle size on the performances of the explosives is not significant.After many thermal circles,for pillars of PBX based on TATB formed by the steel mould pressing,the mechanical strength of these pillars decreases.It might be caused by the interface dewetting between TATB and binder F.Aging process also makes the mechanical properties worse.Compared with the steel mould pressing,the isostatic pressing technology could significantly improve the mechanical properties of the PBX based on TATB.
