Experimental Study of Ventilation Supercavitation Generation and Maintenance Produced by Underwater Vehicle
|
Abstract:
After launching of a superspeed underwater vehicle, multilevel ventilation system is adopted. In order to obtain the design criterion of ventilation rate, a series of experiments about the supercavitation generation and maintenance and the effect of ventilation rate on of supercavity under different conditions were carried out based on high-speed water tunnel (HSWT) in North West Polytechnic University (NWPU). Experimental results show that distinction of critical ventilation rate between the generating supercavity and the maintaining corresponding supercavity is very obvious: the former is 2.616 times of the latter, according to the results mentioned in this paper. Supercavity generation speed is much slower than vehicle's speed, and increases with the increase of ventilation rate. After ventilation supercavity formed, ventilation mutation distinctly influences the cavity form, the way of gas-leakage and the stability of cavity. The results presented in this paper may contribute evidences to further study of free-flying superspeed vehicle.
