Ceramic/Metal Interface Toughness and Its Experimental Measurement
|
Abstract:
Based on the principle of energy superposition and by using the equivalent transformation for beam sections, an expression for calculating the energy releasing rate of interface crack growth in a sandwich beam specimen is developed, and the toughness for the interface of Si 3N 4/Al formed by vacuum diffusion method is measured by a particularly designed four point bending test system. The technique provided by this research could be used for improving the bonding design and evaluating the fracture resistance of ceramic/metal interfaces.
