On the Development of Methane Combustion and Explosion in a 10m3 Explosion Vessel
|
Abstract:
Methane/air mixture explosion development was experimentally and numerically studied in a large-scale multiphase explosion experimental system (a 10m3 explosion vessel) and under 40J spark ignition condition. Center ignition was adopted and four pressure sensors were arranged at different distances from ignition point. Results show that methane explosion upper limit is 13.9% and lower limit is 4.75% respectively. The variety of explosion parameters with distance was obtained when methane concentration is 9.5%. The influence of methane concentration on peak overpressure was analyzed. The maximum explosion pressure appears at 0.75m from ignition point when methane is close to stoichiometric concentration; for other concentrations, the maximum pressure appears at vessel wall. The variety of combustion rate, explosion temperature, gas density with distance was numerically analyzed.
