On the Beat Characteristics of an Asymmetric Ring

Abstract:
Analytical model of the beat response was derived for a slightly asymmetric ring and the model was verified experimentally. Asymmetric ring is a simplified model used to explain the beat property of a bell. For an asymmetric ring, every pair of radial vibration mode has only slightly different inherent frequency. Interference of two close frequency components of mode produces beat phenomenon. Beat diagrams were plotted and beat characteristics on the circumference were explained in detail based on the analytical model. The proposed analytical model can be used to control the beat characteristics of a bell, which has similarity in the beat of pair mode.
