Experimental Investigation of High-Velocity Impact on 5A06 Single Sheet Plate
|
Abstract:
In order to simulate and study the high-velocity impact of space debris on spacecrafts through high-velocity impact on 5A06 single sheet plate,a two-stage light gas gun with non-powder projection was used to launch Al-sphere projectiles.Damage modes of 5A06 single sheet plate in different ranges of impact velocity were obtained. The results show that the depth and diameter of craters change linearly with the projectile diameter when the impact velocity is a constant. The depth and diameter of craters in the targets decrease with increasing the impact velocity, when the impact velocity is between 4km/s and 5km/s,and in other conditions, the depth and diameter of craters increase with the impact velocity increasing.Ballistic limit curve of the 5A06 single sheet plate with impact velocity between 1.0km/s and 4.2km/s was obtained by the approach of fixing projectile diameter, varying impact velocity, seeking the critical impact velocity.Comparing the predicted depth of crater from Cour-Palais equation with the experimental data, the experimental depth of crater is greater than predicted one.
