Flow Theory and Experiment for the Collimated Abrasive Water Jet in Collimating Pipe
|
Abstract:
The characteristics and operating principle of Collimated Abrasive Water Jets(CAWJ) are introduced. By seeing CAWJ as a transient flow which is composed of gas, stream, liquid and particles, the forces acting on the particles in the flow analyzed. The motion equation of particles in CAWJ with energy loss is also derived. Theoretical and experimental results show that the speed and density for each phase in the multiphase transient flow are varying along the collimating pipe, and the particle speed of CAWJ is basically constant within the range of pipe length 0.4m to 3m. It is also found that fine abrasives are suitable for use in shorter pipes and crude abrasives for longer pipes.
