A Preliminary Analysis on Population Viability for Ptychobarbus chungtienensis chungtienensis
|
Abstract:
Ptychobarbus chungtienensis chungtienensis is the only endemic fish species of Bitahai Lake, Yunnan, China. It is also a kind of endangered species and the number is declining. From July 2007 to June 2011, a continuous monitor of the aquatic life in Bitahai Lake was conducted. With the first hand ecological data, we did the population viability analyze using Vortex 9.99, the population dynamics of P. chungtienensis chungtienensis under two kinds of catastrophes was predicted in the following 100 years. Results of the simulation suggest that on the condition of the disasters, the more human impact, the higher probability that the population goes extinct. To keep the ecological balance of the Bitahai Lake, the reserve should reinforce the management, rational use the resources, reduce human interference, continue to strengthen the monitor of the aquatic organism, bring the protection of the fish to the forefront.
