Recent Developments in Mechanisms of Arsenic Metabolism in Plants and Microbe
|
Abstract:
Arsenic contamination has become a major environmental issue all around the world. Arsenic in soil can be taken up by plants and then transferred into human beings through food chain. It is essential to know how arsenic is taken up by and how it metabolized in plants and microbe. Although in recent years, great progress have been achieved in understanding the metabolism of arsenic in microbe, many questions remain to be investigated, such as signal transduction, anti-arsenic gene screening. Rapid advancement also has been accomplished in understanding the uptake and reduction of arsenic in plants. Further studies should be concentrated on the mechanism of arsenic transport and efflux. Current work on the uptake, reduction, translocation and efflux of arsenic in plants and microbe are reviewed in this paper. Future research directions in this field are also recommended.
