Establishment of Toxicity Evaluation System Using Model Organism of Caenorhabditis elegans
|
Abstract:
Model organism of Caenorhabditis elegans has received more and more attention for its important contribution to the study in environmental science and ecotoxicology. So far, relatively perfect toxicity evaluation system has been established using C. elegans. This toxicity evaluation system contains the indicators of lethality, maximum and mean lifespan, apoptosis, development, reproduction, locomotion behavior, acetylcholinesterase activity, learning, memory, transgenic strain, mutant, and expression pattern of gene. The toxicity evaluation system using C. elegans in recent decades was systematically reviewed, and the methods, research progresses, advantages and disadvantages for each indicator were discussed in this paper.
