INHIBITION OF LIPID PEROXIDATION IN ARTIFICIAL MEMBRANES BY SALICYLIC ACID
|
Abstract:
The inhibitory effect of salicylic acid on the lipid per-oxidation in pho-sphatidylcholine liposomes by salicylic acid has been studied. Results show that salicylic acid inhibits the lipid peroxidation and reduces the formation of ma-londialdehyde in phosphatidylcholine liposomes. Spin trapping experiments show that salicylic acid can scavenge the hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals. Mass spectroscopic analysis evidence is presented that the reaction product of salicylic acid with hydroxyl radicalis dihydrobenzoic acid. The possible mechanism of those reaction also has been discussed.
