THE INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF SILICA AND ALUMINIUM CITRATE ON ERYTHROCYTE MEMBRANE-BOUND WATER
|
Abstract:
In the present study, the different effects of silica and aluminium citrate on erythrocyte membrane-bound water have been determined, using method of sorption isotherm and technique of FT-IR spectroscopy. Results show that silica reduces markedly membrane hydration with the red shift of the streching vibration band of water (voH) . This fact indicates that silica causes dehydration of cell membrane. The antagonistic effect of aluminium citrate on dehydration caused by silica has been also demonstrated. It increases membrane hydration and maintains the "water structure" at the normal level. In addition, the role of dehydration induced by silica in its Cytotoxity and the mechanism of antagonistic effect of aluminium citrate on silica have also been discussed.
