DIRECTIONAL SENSITIVITY OF AUDITORY INTERNEURONS OF THE BUSHCRICKET DERACANTHA ONOS (ORTHOPTERA, TETTIGONIIDAE)
|
Abstract:
Directional characteristics of auditory interneurons of the bushcricket Dera-cantha onos have been studied by means of neurophysiological techniques. The auditory threshold, response amplitude and latency were determined in response to different directions of incident sound for single auditory interneurons. Directional sensitivity of these interneurons can be depicted by three neural parameters mentioned above. Directional information of sound source in space is coded mainly in two ways by auditory interneurons, namely spike count and latency shift. The present results provide some new data on the nature of directional cues in insect hearing.
