MODEL STUDY OF EVOKED PERIPHERAL POTENTIALS
|
Abstract:
According to the electrophysiological theory about action potential in avolume conductor, we simulate the single fiber action potential (SFAP) by using tripole model. Assuming that compound action pontential (CAP) of nerve trunk to be the linear summation of SFAP, we present a model of the nerve CAP. N9 component of somatosensory evoked potential (SEP), elicited by stimulating median nerve at the wrist,is then analyzed by computing the conduction velocity distribution of the activated median nerve fibers of normal adults. Some other parameters representing the characteristics of this peripheral tract, such as average conduction velocity, velocity range in which nerve fibers are most probably activated, are also calculated. This method can be used to analyze any kind of evoked peripherial potentials.
