BIO-X: PROPELLING THE BIOLOGY SCIENCE FORWARD IN THE NEW ERA
|
Abstract:
To build the interdisciplinary science center or institute focussed on biology frontiers is a great upsurge around the world these two years. Among them Bio-X program at Stanford University in USA, initiated by Nobel laureate Steve Chu et al., is a most noticeable one. The “X" in the word of Bio-X refers physics, chemistry, engineering, and medicine in a general sense. At the beginning of the new era, a lot of leading-edge research areas in the biology science need to be developed in the manner of the interdisciplinary interactions. These areas include: the post-genome, synchrotron-based structural biology, single-molecule measurement, nanotechnology in biology, brain science, and biomedical engineering.
