VELOCITY TRACKING CHARACTERISTICS OF OKN EYE MOVEMENT ELICITED BY MOVING PATTERN
|
Abstract:
Two different methods of stimulation-the traditional rotating drum and the TV moving pattern were used to elicit optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) of human subjects. Quantitative comparisons shows that both methods have similar effects for OKN responese. The operation of TV stimulus method is more convenient than rotating drum. By stimulating central and peripheral visual field respectively, it demonstrated that OKN is mainly resulted from the stimulus of moving pattern on the central part of the retina. Using stimulus pattern with sinusoidual movement, experiment results shows that the gain of OKN is the function of the acceleration of the stimulus, and is not the function of the peak velocity or frequency of the stimulus. This is confirmed by the dynamic response time of the experiment in which the velocity of moving pattern is in pulse function.
