MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION OF DISINHIBITORY PROPERTIES OF CONCENTRIC RECEPTIVE FIELD

A mathematical model is propose bed on the mutual inhibition among the subunits within receptive field surround. The model may well describe the txansfer property of retinal ganglion cells and explain the mechanism of genesis of the extensive disinhibitory region beyond the cAntoal receptive field. When testing with a luminance contrast border, the new model can not noly enhance the bolder contrast, but also efficlently recover the area luminance contrast and luminance gradient information which were filtered by the center/stirround mechanism of the classical receptive field. Using a luminance grating containing different spatinl frequencies and a real image, the spatial frequency transfer property of the model has heen tested and compared with the other model.
