Apoptosis is a p rogrammed physiological process regulated by genes, in which organelles cooperate with each other as a fine system. Other than nucleus, mito chondria, which can release proteina-ceous factors such as cytochrome c under the actions of various stress factors, are found to be anothe r organelles associated with apoptosis. Recent studies have further sho wed that endoplasmic reticulum and lysosomes are also involved in apop tosis.
