POSITION DEPENDENCE OF SYNAMOUS CODON USAGE
|
Abstract:
Synonymous codon usage of E.coli at different positions along the coding sequence was investigated. Many amino acids show significant variation in codon usage in the translational initiation region and only a few amino acids show weak variation in the translational termination region. Since codon usage is closely related to gene expression, the results coincide with the experimental findings that codon usage at the 5' end of the coding sequence is very important for gene expression. Furthermore, the results indicate that which codons at specific positions may influence gene expression.
