THREE-DIMENSIONAL COMPUTER RECONSTRUCTION OF THE RETINULAR CELLS IN THE SEX-SPECIFIC STRUCTURE OF COMPOUND EYE OF TABANUS MANDARINUS
|
Abstract:
Based on the three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction technique, the relationship between the sex-specific structures and the fundctions of retin-ular cells in the compound eye of tabanus mandarinus has been studied. The diagrams of 3-D reconstruction reveal stereoscopic morphology of the central and surrounding retinular cells and their relationship. A new method for registration of each photograph of serial sections from biological tissue has been developed and used for viewing the 3-D reconstruction of the retinular cells in the compound eye on microcomputer system (CROMEMCO). The parallel arrangment of the retinular cells No. 7-8 in the sex-specific photoreceptors regions of the compound eye is confirmed, and it is compared with R7, R8 in the unsex-spec-ific photoreceptors regions.
