It was demonstrated by experiments and calculations that in responses to a series of clicks, the former clicks masked the responses to those following them, the whole response to the click series was the sum of the responses to every click masked by its previous ones. It seems that this conclusion could be extended to frequency following responses, or even the general situation of fast components of auditory evoked potentials.
