Hybrid life-cycle analysis and its applications in sustainable consumption researches

In 1992,the United Nations brought forward the concept of sustainable consumption and called for life cycle thinking as an important approach in promoting sustainable consumption.After more than 10 years development,life cycle analysis(LCA)has been accepted as the main method in sustainable consumption research.To overcome the limition of traditional LCA,hybrid LCA,which is a method that combine economic input-output analysis and traditional LCA is now widely used in sustainable consumption research.In this paper,we use an example to explain the method of hybrid LCA and its usages in sustainable consumption research.We first established an extended Chinese input-output table with CO2 emission.Then we analyzed the CO2 emissions of final consumption and their interaction with industrial sectors.Our calculations showed that in 1997,per capita CO2 emission from urban households were 1576.62kg,24.96 times higher than rural households.The electricity production and supply sector is the main CO2 emission contributor to final consumption.Uncertainties in using hybrid LCA were reviewed.
