Abstract:

The insect-resistant effect of transgenic hybrid poplar 741 with two insect-resistant genes was tested in laboratory. The indexes of general mortality, each instar mortality, development period and speed of each instar, weight increasing rate etc, were used for evaluations. Results showed that different clone of transgenic hybrid poplars had significant different insect resistances, and hereby four different resistant levels were divided. They were high resistant, moderate resistant, low resistant and non resistant with general mortalities over 75%, between 75%~40%, between 40%~15% and below 15% respectively. The sensitivity of different insect species and different instar larvae of insect to the clones of transgenic poplar varied obvious. Micromelaopha troglodyta (Graeser) was the most sensitive one, followed by American white moth (Hyphantria cunea Drury), Poplar prominent Clostera anachoreta (Fabricius)] and Gypsy moth Lymantria dispar (Linnaeus)]. The higher the instar of larvae, the less sensitive to the transgenic poplar. High resistant poplar showed strong killing effect to young larvae. Moderate resistant poplar showed lower but persistent killing effect to every instar larvae. And transgenic poplars showed obviously inhibiting effect on growth and development of insects also, they can bring about postponement of the development period and reduction of the development speed and weight increasing rate of insects.
