APPLICATION OF 15 N NATURAL ABUNDANCE METHOD TO THE RESEARCH ON NITROGEN CYCLING IN NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS
|
Abstract:
In recent years there has been a prosperous application of stable isotope technique, a new method applied in modern ecology research, in many ecological research fields. Of all kinds of stable isotopes, 15 N stable isotope technique plays a very important role in the research on nitrogen cycling in natural ecosystems and is still functioning efficiently now. In this article, the nitrogen cycling processes in natural ecosystems and the related 15 N isotopic fractionation during every processes were introduced. The theory and method about 15 N natural abundance method were reviewed in detail, respectively. Some case studies on nitrogen cycling applying 15 N natural abundance method were listed.
