The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stal), has caused extensive damage to the rice crop in Southern China in recent decade years. Large quantities of insecticides are used in rice fields for chemical control of BPH. Resugence of BPH by indiscriminate application of certain insecticides results in great loss of rice yield.
