RESPONSE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS TO ELEVATED ATMOSPHERIC CO2
|
Abstract:
The substantial role of atmospheric CO 2 for photosynthesis had been admitted during the early nineteenth century. The rapid increase in atmospheric CO 2 concentration raises the interest again in photosynthetic response to CO 2 concentrations.Plant response to elevated CO 2 according to species, development stage and interaction of other factors, such as temperature, light, water and soil nutrient availability.Short term(minutes to days)exposure to elevated CO 2 often stimulates photosynthetic rate while photosynthetic acclimation may occur under long term(months to seasons)exposure.Mechanism of photosynthetic acclimation is not clear now.Feedback inhibition by end product and resources reallocation are proposed. The interacted effects of CO 2 elevation and other environmental factors make it more feasible. In this review,we will discuss how photosynthesis of plant response to elevated CO 2 and the interaction of other factors such as temperature with elevated CO 2 on photosynthetic acclimation.
