Abstract:
Small mammals are of crucial importance to boreal forest ecosystem because they constitute staple food for many mammalian and avian predators and they consume plants, lichens, fungi and invertebrates. In addition, they also help plants to disperse their seeds. However, small mammals have also been shown to be more susceptible to local extinction in fragmentated habitats.
