STUDY ON THE FORMATION OF LIQUID CRYSTALS DURING THE FOLLICULAR ATRESIA OF Tilapia mossambica BY FREEZE-ETCHING
|
Abstract:
The formation of liquid crystals during the follicular atresia of Tilapia mossambica was studied by electron microscope with freeze-etching. The results show that the concentric lamolar bodies can be formed after digestion of yolk spheres in granulosa cells The lamellar bodies belong to the lyotropic liquid crystals, which consist of lipids with a few proteins 4- water. It is possible that the enzyme action of the lysosomes in a granulosa cell is at least one of the important factors causing the formation of liquid crystals. The phase transition was also revealed during the digestion of yolk spheres, from gel phase to liquid crystal phase. It is likely that the lipids and some proteins of yolk in a liquid crystal state take part in the metabolism of organism.
