A STUDY ON CELL WALL ULTRASTRUCTURE OF COTTON FIBER DURING DEVELOPMENT
|
Abstract:
The dynamic changes of cell wall ultrastructures of cotton fiber (Gossypium hirsutum L. Daizi-15) during development were studied by X-ray diffraction technique. The results were: Between 17 and 50 days post - anthesis the mean micro fibrillar spiral angle of S2 secondary walls declined, and orientational degree of cellulose crystallites increased. Between 5 and 14 days post - anthesis crystallinity slowly increased. After this period it increased steeply and reached a maximun on the 17th day post-anthesis, then increased very slowly until about 50 days post-anthesis.
