THE QUANTITATIVE RELATION BETWEEN THE RATE OF CHOLESTEROL METABOLISM AND ATHEROSCLEROSIS (AS)
|
Abstract:
In general, the rate of reverse cholesterol transport are strongly correlated with the development of .AS. but quantitative determination is lacking. By means of the 3H-cholesterol trace method. a three compartment model is established to describe cholesterol metabolism among plasma lipoproten. liver. and extrahapetic tissue in vivo. According to the experimental data. the rate constants from one compartment to another and the dynamic curves in each compartment have been estimated by means of the theory of system identification. These model parameters can be used to assess the ability of plasma lipoproteins in transfering cholesterol. Based on the results of the experiments, it is found that the ability of reverse cholesterol transport in the AS group was weaker than that of the control group. It is also noted that the rates of cholesterol transport are highly negative correlated with the degree of AS. We expect that this research will provide a new method and enlightenment on clinical prediction, diagnosis and treatment of AS.
