Phoning Home: Bridging the Gap between Conservation and Convenience

Abstract This article introduces the concept of the Phoning Home System. It is a system that allows users to interact with their household appliances via the telephone, wherever they may be (e.g., driving). The Phoning Home System is able to monitor and reduce energy consumption by said appliances without encroaching on users’ convenience. While privacy can be seen as a major challenge to this eco-friendly project, its benefits far outweigh its limitations. The Phoning Home System encourages conservation through convenience and takes us one step closer to a greener tomorrow.
