P53 As a Biomarker of Breast CancerDOI: 10.5923/j.rct.20120102.01 Keywords: Breast Cancer, Biomarker, P53, Transcription Factor Abstract: Breast cancer has been the most common malignancy and the major cause of cancer related mortality of women worldwide. Although there has been improvement in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in recent years, early detection methods for detection are still limited. One of the most extensively studied biomarker of breast cancer, p53, mediates cell cycle progression, cell senescence, cell differentiation, DNA repair and apoptosis. Mutations of the p53 gene or it’s over expression has been observed in 20-50% of primary breast tumours.
