Using fluorescence techniques in identification of metabolically active bacteriaDOI: 10.2478/v10232-011-0001-4 Keywords: lake, bacterioplankton, metabolic activity Abstract: The paper characterises selected contemporary techniques which enable detailed analysis of aquatic organisms in terms of their function and structure. It presents methods in which fluorescence dyes are used to assess the metabolic and physiologic activity of bacteria. The following types of bacteria determination have been described: with an active system of electron transport (CTC+), with intact cytoplasmatic membrane (MEM+), with integrated nucleoide (NuCC+), as well as determination of a level of metabolic activity by measuring ribosome content in an individual cell (FISH, MAR FISH). Results of research into the activity of bacterioplankton from various literature sources have been compared.
