Infrastruktury pro vyzkum a vyvoj podpo ené z Opera ního programu Vyzkum a vyvoj pro inovace - udr itelnost z hlediska lidskych zdrojDOI: 10.2478/v10217-011-0007-2 Keywords: R&D infrastructure, OP RDI, human resources, sustainability Abstract: The quality of research infrastructure in Czechia has been so far evaluated as lagging still considerably behind more developed western economies. At the same time, it is generally agreed that the availability of front-end research infrastructure plays important role not only for the quality of the research activities, but also for international cooperation and collaboration with the industry. The existing deficit of the research infrastructure in Czechia is addressed by the current European operational programmes supporting establishment of new (large) research centres. The real impact of these new research infrastructures being built, however, depends highly not on the physical infrastructure itself, but also on its utilization, being dependent on the ability to attract excellent research teams and researchers into these centres. This paper therefore assesses the availability of existing human resources in research and development and compares them with the indicated requirements of the emerging centres in order to evaluate potential risks and challenges stemming from these projects. The analysis shows that in some of the research fields the future demand for new employees might exceed the contemporary trends of human resources in research and development, jeopardizing the existing or the emerging research centres, and thus expected impacts of the new research infrastructure.
