Roles múltiples, cualidad del rol, apoyo social y salud en mujeres trabajadoras

the objectives of the present study were: 1.to evaluate the quality of social roles (rewards and stressors) in working women and their relation to mental health. 2. to test the moderating effects of social support on the relationship between role-stressors and mental health. participants were 122 women university employees (x age= 38.9) who worked as clerical and secretaries. role quality was measured using a questionnaire developed by barnett y marshall (1989) and modified by feldman et al. (1995). social support (ss) was measured using the dunn et al. scale (1987). the 28-item general health questionnaire (goldberg, 1972) was used as a measure of mental health. the results indicate that social support was related to lower levels of anxiety and general psychological distress. the partner and the support from groups and religion seemed the most important sources of support in relation to mental health. significant interactions between job and partner demands, groups and religious support and depression were found. the findings suggest the importance of social support, especially groups and religion support as a protective factor in working women involved in multiple roles.
