Abstract: in this paper the representation of women in school history textbooks covering the period from the conquest of chile to the late twentieth century is analyzed. to this end editions from the decades of the eighties and nineties and the texts published and distributed by the ministry of education to public and subsidized schools in 2009 were revised. as of the early nineties, the chilean state proposed to eliminate sexism and promote gender equity in the school system. despite attempts to bring women out of oblivion and invisibility, their discursive representation is characterized by exclusion, generalization, association with gender stereotypes and the construction of passive figures marginalized from the historical processes.
