ESTALLIDOS PROVINCIALES: LA TENSA RELACIóN ENTRE LAS PROVINCIAS Y EL CENTRO. CHILE, 1830-1860

this article seeks to investigate the causes of some of the rebellions that occurred in chile during the xix century, particularly in the northern and southern provinces. these so called provincial outbursts were reactions against the centralist nature of the political system, which concentrated the political and economic power in the port city ？ capital city axis: valparaiso y santiago. we intend to evaluate the territorial influence in this process to see whether there was a move toward separation from the chilean state in some of the rebellions, that is to say, the idea of setting up an autonomous political organization. the main rebellions analyzed in this study are those of the provincial capitals of concepción and copiapó, since they were the ones that had a more profound and lasting impact upon the country's political shaping in the second half of the century.
