this paper aims to present the exercise of drawing as basic and functional tool in the design methodology, visual arts, and also architecture, analysing it as a thinking and physical process. from sketching (free hand) tradition until digital, from the acquisition of drawing skills and its applications, we will approach its contribution in the conception and development of products and art, from the idea to concept sketches, from the analysis to object (solution). we also analyse the structural importance of drawing during education, based on its universality.
