this paper focuses on the influence of coal in the social-economic development of the association of municipalities of the coal region (amrec), the association of municipalities of laguna region (amurel) and the association of municipalities of the south of santa catarina (amesc), it intends to show the importance that santa catarina's coal industry has had on the growth of these regions. nowadays, along with the establishment of industries in various sectors, the need for economic redevelopment in the mining areas has been increasing, as well as the environmental and socio-economic problems caused by the exploitation of this resource.
