this paper studies a set of tactics and strategies, as these terms are used by foucault, aimed at shaping/developing subjects within the broader framework of the production of young people living [with hiv/aids] as a 'new character' of the disease. youths are construed as a 'danger,' as their sexuality is seen as 'exacerbated,' 'out of control' because of their age, and may cause the dissemination of the virus. therefore, they are the subject of heavy investments to shape their morality. it is assumed that they need to develop a degree of excellence in 'self-control'. a sexuality/citizenship workshop, consisting of educational activities followed by debate, is analyzed to understand the constitutive tension present when sex is discussed with hiv-positive youths, particularly when pleasure is seen as the key element, although restricted by obligation and responsibility, as framed by prevention discourse.
